A census-designated location, Tubac is seated within Santa Cruz County, and it is known for being one of the small areas in the United States with a population of 949 as of the 2000. Tubac is not a common name for an area, and it is actually a Hispanicized word which means “rotten.” The original name of Tubac was actually “Cuwak” which was later spelt as “Tubaca” until the ‘a’ was dropped from the name.
